Impact of Google Instant on SEO
If you have used Google in the past few weeks, I am sure you have noticed Google Instant. This new search feature displays Google results as you type. It is also more aggressive in steering your results toward automatically suggested search queries.
The effect this has on search engine optimization is significant. Google Instant does not kill search engine optimization. I believe it actually makes doing SEO all the more important. With Google being more aggressive in providing search suggestions, people will rely on those suggestions more. As a result, the percentage of unique queries may begin to decrease. If that happens, there will be more search volume directed at fewer words.
Also, by making it faster and easier to see results, the rate at which people modify their search query instead of scrolling down the page to see more results will likely increase. Over time this will cause more clicks to shift upward to the top positions. What that means is that sites ranking in the 7 - 10 positions may see even fewer clicks than they are used to.
The velocity of search has picked up. Your SEO strategy should too.
