Google Buys Motorola Mobility

$12.5 billion is a lot of money. Looks like that is how much Google paid for Motorola Mobility. This was announced earlier today, and I about fell out of my chair when I heard the news.

What’s interesting about this acquisition is that Motorola is one of 39 manufactures that use the Google Android operating system. Is this a move to capitalize on the market or to just start to force others out? It’s not normal for a company like Google to buy a hardware company like Motorola… that’s why it comes as a surprise to even me.

Reports are saying that Android will continue to be an open platform, and that Motorola will continue to run as a separate business. We’ll see how long that lasts.

Never thought I would see Google in the hardware business.
