Earlier today I was looking for a new text editor for my computer. I have Microsoft Word, but I was looking for something that allowed me to write in rich text, sans the styles. For instance, if you copy and paste something from the web into Word, the styles will also be copied. I just wanted something that was simple, rich text that would allow me to edit/write/code without the styles. I also have TextEdit on my laptop, but that program also takes styles.
So I went to Google… and I found several solutions. Below is a list of what I found:
- NOTEPAD++ (Windows)
- Bluefish Editor (Mac, Linux)
- TextWrangler (Mac)
- Smultron (Mac)
- Caditor (Windows)
- gedit (Linux)
- GNU Emacs (Windows, Mac, Linux)
- Crimson Editor (Windows)
- ConTEXT (Windows)
- SciTE (Windows, Linux)
- Komodo Edit (Windows, Mac, Linux)
- jEdit (Windows, Mac, Linux)
As you can see, there are plenty of programs to choose from. Since I am using a Mac, my selection is limited… but there are still several great options for Mac users. I have never used a Linux machine, but there are quite a few of these that would work on a Linux.
I just wanted to share these with you. I tried a couple of them, and I still prefer Word. I guess I will just have to worry about the styles at a later date. When I transfer the HTML over to iWorksite and ClubWorksite, it’s fine.
Do you use a text editor? What editor(s) do you like?
